Accessibility Policy

As a web professional who has worked on several accessibility related projects, it is important I try to ensure this site is as accessible as possible to as many devices as possible.

Stylesheets

I have developed a high contrast colour scheme linked via the right hand menu (Switch to high contrast colour scheme, Switch to normal colour scheme), and the skip to content link in the top bar which bypasses the top navigation and enables the reader to gain access directly into the content.

Web Standards

The site is written using semantic XHTML 1.0 making the content easier to access and avoiding unecessary markup. I use CSS for presentation, leaving the XHTML free to contain the clean, clear data.

Access Keys

I only use one access key on this site, as I am aware of the issues regarding their usage. Some argue that they interfere with operating system/browser/user defined function keys. As such, I use one as an example of their use and my ability to consider them should a brief mandate their inclusion.

  • Access key 1 [Alt/Control 1] - Returns you to the homepage

Links

Links have titles on them to help describe the content of their destination page and further explain where the user will be taken when clicking on them. All links open in the same browser window to ensure the user experience isn't interrupted by losing the back button.

Ongoing

As this site is an online portfolio for a web developer, there may be errors, mistakes, items in development or items which have simply been omitted due to time constraints. If you feel I need to include something, or if you have a comment about the accessibility of this site, or you would like to talk to me about accessible design services, please contact me.
